"RIDING A HORSE IS NOT A GENTLE HOBBY...IT IS A GRAND PASSION. IT SEIZES A PERSON WHOLE AND ONCE IT HAS DONE SO, HE/SHE WILL HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT HIS LIFE WILL BE RADICALLY CHANGED." ~ RALPH WALDO EMERS0N
Healing hearts, one rescue horse at a time.
Something really unbelievable happened to you when you were a child or a teen. It happens to a lot of women, making them vulnerable and susceptible to anyone and everything out there in the world. Life hurts because the trauma of childhood sexual abuse and/or incest affects every single area of a growing woman's life. It affects intimacy in any future relationship as well as creates vices like eating disorders. You may have been to many counselors and may be making progress, but you still feel like nothing is ever going to change in a positive manner. Life just moves on and no one understands. The Founder of this Ranch understands. Because it happened to her and is an ongoing process of forgiveness, not just of the perpetrator but also of herself.
The Founder was able to find peace in one single horse rescued from slaughter. There is peace in a one-to-one equine relationship that the average person can't describe. That's because an abused horse rescued from slaughter is not a predator. He is prey, just like you were. That bond that develops and exists between horse and caregiver is something no one can understand and compare to, except for those in the bond. At JRQ Ranch, we want all adult women survivors of childhood sexual abuse to experience the same healing. It's incredible.
We are now partnering with Emma's Education Center, a state licensed ISS Center for adults with intellectual disabilities to build a dream -- a working ranch for abused women AND a host ranch for adults with intellectual disabilities who are in need of a host home. Together, we will build our own community, away from the stresses of the outside world, to work one to one, not only with horses, but with each other.
